Difference between Gold-Filled vs. Gold-Plated jewelry: 
Gold-filled lasts longer and is more durable than gold-plated because gold-filled jewelry has 100x more gold alloy which results in a much thicker layer. Gold-filled has 2-3 layers of real gold mixed with other metals while gold plated jewelry is made through the electroplating process, taking a base metal—brass, copper, silver—and then applying a thin gold layer on top.
